What Florida Law Says About Abortion in the Second Trimester

In Florida, abortion is currently prohibited after six weeks of pregnancy. There are limited exceptions through fifteen weeks for cases of rape, incest, human trafficking, or serious fetal abnormalities, and later exceptions exist only when the mother’s life is at risk or when a fatal fetal abnormality has been diagnosed.

For most women in Florida, abortion access beyond six weeks is not legally available without meeting one of those specific criteria.

This means that for many women in the second trimester, abortion is not a legal option in the state. Understanding this is essential to making an informed decision about what comes next.

Parenting in the Second Trimester

If you’re further along than you realized, parenting may feel more immediate and more real. That can be overwhelming, but it doesn’t mean you’re without support.

Programs like WIC and Medicaid provide practical and financial assistance during pregnancy and after delivery. Life Options Clinic can connect you with local resources so you don’t have to navigate that process alone.

And if you’re interested in this option but want to build confidence while receiving material items, our pregnancy and parenting classes provide the skills you need while helping you earn baby furniture, diapers, and more.

Adoption at This Stage

Adoption is an option regardless of how far along you are. You can create a plan at any point during your pregnancy, choose an adoptive family, and decide on the level of contact you want going forward.

Adoption services are covered at no cost to you. In some cases, you may even receive financial assistance throughout your pregnancy.

We can discuss this option with you and provide referrals to reputable agencies. You can learn more about the adoption process and ensure your questions are answered.
